Hello. I have a black widow tetra which looks far too fat for a fish of its kind.
It's been like this for at least the last 3 months. It seems happy and is eating fine and swimming around ok. I've asked at my lfs and they say it's probably overfeeding but I'm pretty sure it's not as I've trialed feeding them less and nothing has changed in the way it looks. The fish is more than 6 months old.
Wondered whether anyone has had the same problem or knows anything about it.

Sorry. The picture looks terrible

It's a female with eggs. If you have a group of them, the males should encourage her to breed.

When fish are kept in good conditions and fed regularly, the females develop eggs. If your fish has been looked after then she has a belly full of eggs.

Black widow/ skirt tetras (your fish) need to be kept in groups of 10 or more for maximum social and psychological health. If it's a small tank, then try to keep at least 6 of them.
