In my juwel rio 125 I'm planning to have a quuen arabesque pleco, 6 corys, 5 otos, 10 neons, 10 harlequins and 2 dwarf gouramis.
Would I br overstocked

Would i still be overstocked if I edited the cories to 5, and just a shoal of 10 neons ( no harlequins) but still all the others

I'm guessing you'd be good then. Probably better to check with someone smarter than me. The first stocking though, was definitely overstocked.

Call me stupid, but how many gallons are we talking about?

I think a recognised method is to know the total number of (adult) centimetres of proposed fish in your tank. Then allow 12sqcm of water surface area per centimetre of fish.

Alternatively, you could try Googling for a aquarium stocking level calculator, such as this one: http://www.fishtanksandponds.info/resource...gcalculator.htm

Hope that helps...

I subscribe to the inch of fish to a gallon of water rule roughly myself. Although surface area is accurate, you can artificially increase it with greater surface agitation, so for me its a bit too loose imo ofc...

I'd suggest that the best method to use is the one you are most comfortable with. The greatest news however is that you're actually worried about this and are asking questions...... sooooo many people just don't bother!

Best wishes for a great tank!

Harlequins may look better... but they take up more oxygen and space... The neons are recommened and trust me I work at a fish store lolz... well petsmart... BUT STILL! Harlequins, although amazing to watch, are more of a threat to overstocking than neons! also get yourself an airpump if you don't already have one... something in the 40 gallon range should do it :D good luck!

Ditch the neons!

Harlequins are way more active and a lot hardier.

So if you went for something like:

10 Harlequins
3 Oto's
6 Corys
2 Dwarf Gourami

I wouldn't consider that overstocked for a 33g.
