Hi

I don't know if anyone has been on Thinkfish, but they have a community creator. On this you can put down what fish you want in your tank, and it tells you if it overstocked (among other things). This takes into consideration the 'bio-weight' and not just the size of the fish.

Anyway, here is what I came up with:

2xPearl Danios
2xLongfin Zebra Danios
3xPlatys
6xNeons
1xBetta
2xRam (the small ones)

My tank size is 60x29x27 (58 litres). According to Thinkfish, this should be ok (just). I do keep my tank very clean and do regular (overly so) changes and cleaning. All water stats are very good etc etc.

My question is what are other peoples opinion on stocking the tank this way - with regards to the amount of fish?

Cheers
Andy.

Danios need groups of 5+ so get either the zebra's or the pearls. also i minimum size tank for them is 20g i think.

neon's can nip betta's.

ram's need 20g tanks?

platies unless you get the same sex can breed and overrun the tank.

:good:

Things that the site hasn't taken into consideration though;
a. Danios are far too active for a 58litre, even for small danios like zebra's and leopards i wouldn't advise anything smaller than 15-20gals due to their activity levels. I really couldn't imagine pearl danios being very happy in a 58litre- honestly speaking, if someone wanted to get danios with 20gals being a minimum, i would prefer they were in a 30gal at least. It depends on the length of the tank i suppose. They also need to be in groups as jayjay mentioned of their own type, so your situation is not really ideal as far as the danio's are concerned.

b. It depends on the platies genders. Platies are very over-sexed little fish and the males have been known to harrass females to death, so i would add another female making sure there is 3females and one male.

c. I suppose neons are ok in a 58litre, but the betta (particually if it is a male) will be getting stressed out by any of the species of fish in the tank, bettas really do not make good community fish due to their agressive nature, but also being prone to being picked on and nipped at- they also do not compete well for food with faster moving fish.
d. Wouldn't know about the rams, don't have much experience with them, but a 58litre seems a bit on the small side :|

I've got to be honest - just had a go with the Thinkfish community generator and I wouldn't personally trust it as far as I can fart *lol*. It's saying I'm less than a fifth stocked, even after I've added the fish I'm planning on, and also says plecs can't be kept with cories, and suggested tankmates for american cichlids include africans. It seems a pretty poor resource TBH. ;)
