hey all,

right im guessing this has been covered before, probably every year lol

my marine tank is overheating big time, everyday at the moment!
im in england and the weather for once is HOT! but its a sticky close heat, and its making my tanks overheat.
for the last 3 days its got up to 30 degrees celcius and thats with the lids off!

im running 2 marine whites and 2 marine blues, both T8s (the fatter bulbs)
in the day ive been leaving the blues off and it has helped but it is still getting silly hot.

i have a lot of corals and polyps in the tank, and am worried they may suffer or die!

can anyone offer any help or suggestions?
is it safe to reverse light cycle? have the lights off in day and on at night?

TC-10 Temp controller with a set of 4 fans on Azoo ones I use and blow air accross the top of your sump or tank mine has creeped upto 27.1 at the most of the last 6 weeks with glass covers on.

simillar setup to mori i looked on ebay for a temp controller for a vivarium and them got 4 pc fans and set them up to come on when water temp goes up was a royal pain in the a### to get the temp setting right to stop the fans always being on but keeps the temp down by circulating the air its not as affective as a chiller addmited but does work.

I am assuming you have got an enclosed tank? if so try an get a bit of air in there which will help to reduce temp, also look at powerheads and make sure they are clean as they can generate a surprising amount of heat, which in the winter isnt a problem.

No issue at all with reversing the lighting cycle unless the tank gets a huge amounnt of light in the day, may be worth setting it up so the lighting comes on later in the day say 1-2pm or later then you get lights off most of the night to help the temp drop, maybe even look at how long your lights are on and reduce the lit time, unfortunately there is no easy way to reduce the temp but lots of little things will make a difference

I should have added if you are going to run fans I would recomend looking at an auto top off as fans will increase your evaporation

ive solved it :)
in such a stupidly simple way lol

i put my tower fan blowing directly onto the external canistor and pipes, within 3 hours the temp was down to 27 degrees :)
now, a long while later its back at 26 and hasnt gone up yet
ill leave the fan off overnight when the lights are out and then i can finally leve the lid shut so it wont evaporate as much

on a side note, i have now rehomed all my tropical freshwater fish :)
so, for now my turtles are in the vision 180 until i get paid then its turning salty.
got new filter and media to use, so gonna be using already mixed water from my lfs tanks, and some live rock then leave it for 12 days and then hopefully ill have decided what to put in it lol

any ideas?
im open to all suggestions.
would prefer a fish only tank as i already have the reef one.
also, if its something a little more bizarre that would be cool too, been looking at wartskin anglers but not sure yet

once i have the salt ill be setting up the breeding tanks in back room for the h.barbouri seahorses im gonna be breeding :)
