Ive had my tank for about 4 months, its not very big, 61cm length, 31cm wide, 44cm height.

I only just recently added more gravel about 2.5inches thickness of it, use to be a quarter of that before, theres a filter under the gravel and a air maker thingy also.

Current fish I have in this tank are:

4 Neon tetras
1 Black neon
2 Rosy tetras
3 Guppies
1 Samurai fighter (female)
2 Rainbow Sharks
1 Catfish (not sure which one, but its nocturnal and swims upside down)
2 Black Ghost Knightfish
1 Honey or Gold Gourami
2 Black tetras
2 No idea what they are, something swordfish (because there tails are long and pointy, theyre black below and on top are a light green skin tone).
2 Snails

Some pointers on what and every when to feed them, how often do i need to check my water and change it.
Currently i feed them once a day (morning) on rainbow color flakes.

Ive been getting some advice from some aquariums and friends and they all say different things so its abit confusing.

How many fish are suitable to live in this tank? Any fish i have in here at the moment not suitable to live with other fish?

Any suggestions if i can have more fish, (usually buy fish every 2 weeks) what else should i get?? I want to be able to spread them evenly, bottom dwellers, middle dwellers and top dwellers but not very sure whic fish swims where most of the time.
Im more into the bright colors, metallicy colors of fish.
Im thinking at looking around for 40 fish maximum, to much?

My current plants are fake, is there a advantage in getting real plants?
Is it wise to drop those food pellets that last like 2 weeks in the tanks or are they only for when you leave the house on a holiday or something?

Ive never had fish die on me once they have settled in the water, only 1 silver shark died from shock and 1 neon tetra died from a older kinda of filter/air maker i had that looked like it got stuck on the suction thing (that things gone now).

Also, i leave my light turned on 24/7, should i ever turn it off for like half a day or a certain period?

Any other pointers and advice would be great as im looking into making this a long term hobby and eventually maybe buying a tank at least 2-3 metres long 2m high.

This may be up for debate but I think you may have a wee bit too many fish in your tank.....make sure you do regular water changes...........I would do them about once a week or every other week, about 20%. Make sure the water is the same temperature as the water going into the tank, and also don't forget to de-chlorinate it. What temperature do you have the tank at?

Your sharks might pick on your little fish as they get bigger, and they may nip guppy fins so keep an eye on that. Those little sharks get really big, so eventually you will need to get a bigger tank or trade them in on some smaller, more peaceful tetras. Now I am not necessarily picking on your sharks, I have had several that were nice little guys, but I have also had some really territorial fin nippers too! Just keep an eye out and be aware that there may be a problem in the future.

I would turn the lights off every night when you go to bed and turn them back on when you get up. In the wild the fish are used to the sun going up and going down and we need to keep that going for them in the tank. Even though fish don't go to sleep they do have a rest period to continue homeostasis just like we need to do.....most of us have our tanks on a timer and that works out quite well.

Real plants have a huge benefit to your tank. Just like in the real world, take us for example, there is a give and take between us and plants. We give off CO2 as a waste by-product, and the plants take that in as fuel, giving us O2 to breathe. The same goes for the tank. The plants also keep ammonia and wastes down and keeps algae from spreading like wildfire. You should go to the "where does your garden grow" section a little lower on the forum and read the pinned articles to help you more with plants.....

Did I answer everything????? :)
