So today, after receiving a large amount of guppies to look after from my grandpa who is going on holiday, I now have severe overcrowding, Im going to get rid of some and I have a few questions.

1. Is there any gender that I should specifically get rid of more than otheres?

2. What are some diseases that can occur from over crowding?

3. Do people want to buy fry or adults more?

Im no expert but i know that overcrowding can lead to bad water quality, and in my experience it can lead to a cotton wool like disease, which covers there eyes and mouth.

There is no particular gender that is better gotten rid of but it is often harder to sell females because they lack the decorative value of the males.

There are no particular diseases that happen with crowding but any diseases present are much more easily spread around in a closely confined population.

Adults are always easier to sell than fry. Another factor that favors selling adults is that the fry will grow to be adults and become the next generation of breeders.

With all that said, the main effect of a high population of guppies is the nitrate levels climbing much faster than the typical water change schedule can accommodate. If you decide to keep all of the fish, double your water change schedule and things should be fine as long as there are no diseases present in the population.
