I've been looking at a bunch of websites on betta breeding, trying to improve my technique so to speak, and found this one guy feeds his bettas chicken livers to help bring out their color and prepare them for breeding. So I picked up some chicken livers at the supermarket. (People there thought I was gonna eat them too... -_-) and gave the adult bettas a small tidbit to see how they took it.

I gave them all tiny cut up tidbits and they enjoyed their small portions very much, but I don't like how greasy it makes the water so I only give it to them when I'm gonna give them a water change right after.

Today, I decided to try it again...I tore off a piece of liver and was about to give it to Admiral when...apparently some sort of fiber attached the whole thing together

Admiral made off with half a liver, you can imagine his reaction. :hyper:

Well he didn't want to give it back and swam away immediately, clutching the liver, he never let go of the thing once and began dancing and thrashing all through the water trying to either break a piece off or swallow the entire thing whole. I was afraid he would choke, and so I tried to get it back. (Mistake #2.) He wouldn't have it, and started running all over the tank dividing his time between flaring violently at my hand and dodging expertly through my fingers. He finally let it go and I took it out and gave him slightly smaller pieces. You'd think he killed it himself he was so proud.

Then onto Jaws tank, she actually leaped out of the water, took it from me, and dissapeared to gobble her piece down. Bubbles was polite about it, and took the piece gentley, Pretty was too busy flaring at his reflection in the tank to notice the food dropped down.

I know the liver is definately a hit flavor wise, but we have got to work on the size of the pieces.

Hahaha, too funny!! I just about laughed myself silly picturing Admiral dragging a huge chunk of liver all over the place

My juvies do that when bugs fall in their tank... I've found them fighting over and ripping a giant cricket to shreds before. It reminded me of the seagulls in Finding Nemo -- Mine! Mine! Mine!
