Ottos

HI,
i'm getting a 55 gallon tank in a few weeks and i was wondering what would be a good number of ottos if i wanted them to clean the whole tank so that they would be the only kind of catfish in the tank?

Well the minimum amount of oto's to any group is 3, but consiering the tank size i would go for a minimum of 6.
If the tank is new though its not gonna have any algae, and oto's aern't that suited to new tanks, you will still have to feed them just as much as any other fish though, they like things like cucumber, tomato and algae wafers. If you are just getting them to clean the tank but don't have any algae, i wouldn't get them, if you still want them either way i would hold on a bit until the tank has matured a bit .
