hi

my tank has been set up now for 6 weeks now and i have enough room to put a group of 5 ottos in there but is the tank mature enough for them?

i currently have a male fighter and 5 glowlight tetras in there and they are fine.

No. Next!

If I could expand slightly, if you have to ask this question, you don't have the experience to keep them. Let me be clear about Otocinclus; the vast majority of specimens people buy die within weeks. They are very difficult to maintain unless they're kept cool, kept in a tank with a strong water current and lots of oxygen, and fed a daily supply of green algae or suitable substitutes.

If you want a small catfish to scoot about the tank, then look to Corydoras. If you want a small algae eater, then go with nerite snails. If you're an experienced aquarist who understands how to create a llanos-type environment in an aquarium, and how to cultivate green algae, then by all means consider the challenge that is Otocinclus.

Cheers, Neale
