the little rascals have damaged a couple of my plants though it's not the norm, but as I've witnessed them scouring away just a little too eagerly, I know they can indeed do some damage.

As for the hair algae, obviously it's not going to eat long strands of the stuff, but I think if there are any new budding growth, they might nip it in the bud.
