I put 6 ottos in my 65 gal and am wondering how long it will take them to clean up the algae.
Maybe i should another kind of algae eater?
Would a siamese algae eater get along ok with ottos?

i use otos, don't expect the algae to be gone overnight, if you have a lot you should scrub off some of htem.

CAE's caqn get really big and decide that algae isnt as great as it use to be and then it turns homicidal to smaller fishes

I believe he said SAE, but oh well.

It's best not to rely on fish to clean up algae and/or the tank floor. They don't do all that good of a job cleaning up the tank, and they need sustenance which would be shrimp pellets and algae tablets (especially if the algae runs out).

As for why they aren't eating, we have to knwo wht type of algae it is in order to tell you why they aren't eating and how to better clean it up.

no, no, don't clean off the algea. Otocinclus' are amazing fish and are my favourite fish for maintanance. First, do you know what kind of algea it is (horse hair, soft stuff that you can wipe off with your fingers, green spots that area extremely hard to get off? What kind of lighting do you have with your tank-fourlessent, incandessent? Fourlessent lighting can make algea grow extremely fast... I found that if I had 'soft algea' the oto's would do an amazing job of eating it up. For more 'exotc' algea like red or horse hare the sae's are the way to go-but I found them doing a lousy job at eating the 'soft algea'. As for the 'hard green spots that are hard to ge off' I have not yet found a fish that would eat it. I have to get out my scrub brush and 'scrape' it off. (difficult work)
Ok, I hope this helps, bon chance!
