Hi i already have four Otos in my planted tank but tomorrow i will be changing it to a blackwater set up. Will the otos be ok with just wood in the tank? The lighting will be dimmed as well.

I have heard that they will die if not kept with plants but ive had them for over a month now and none of them have died so would they be ok?

Thanks

I don't know if they would like the blackwater setup, and they do really prefer to have plants generally.

Ive had them with life plants, but I dont see why it would be bad to keep them with out. They do eat algea, so prehaps if there is no live plants they may nibble on the plants slightly, but I have not noticed that any of my plants have been affected by the ottos.

A black water set is one of those south american ones that people keep tetras in with low ph?

Yes but i dont plan to make my pH drop really low. Just a little below 7.

ive read 6.8-7.5 is good for them, so it is around there it should be fine, but you should change the Ph gradualy.

they would be good in the set up as long as there was algae! so if there is no plants add some fertilizer that will promote algae growth! it will produce some algae and they will be cool! ^_^ i do that for my pleco
