I am curious as to how much waste otos produce? Are they very messy? I want to add more to my existing tank(s), but they are all pretty much stocked. If, however, the otos only add a little then I would feel safe being over stocked. I am an obsesive water changer, if this happens to make a difference. I just want more otos to deal with my out of control diatoms. :sly:

Like all pleco-like fish, they produce more than their share for their size :p It's better not to overdo. Otos are very persistent algae eaters as long as they're hungry. Are the ones you have making any headway?

Not really...I only have 2 in each of my 10 gallons and 3 in my 29 gallon. I was thinking they would be happier and do a better job in larger groups.

Guppygirly....lol, i have 12 in my 20 gal. tank :D !! They are VERY effective at cleaning out the algae. They also seem to do better when in groups of 4 or more...just my observations. Plants are a bonus too...make them more comfortable and more active. Mine do produce their fair share of waste though, but its insignificant when compared to other pl*cos.

All my tanks are in the process of being planted, and I did notice that the threesome are happier than the twosomes...I may just have to slightly overstock for now.
