I've recently added three Otos to my 20gal (US) tank and they've cleaned all the visible algae so I thought I should include Algae wafers in their diet. My question is how long should I leave the wafers in the tank? Should I continue to add wafers daily? Thanks.

Also, along with the 3 Otos I have 2 Serpaes, 2 Black Skirts and one Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami. Are there any other suggestions for possible tank mates?

My experience with otos (which wasn't too good) is that they won't eat algae wafers. I found that they much prefered cucumbers or zuchini which I hung on the side of the tank with clips. I never saw they eating the wafers which I usually ended up taking out.

yup yup, my ottos never touched the algae wafers but always munched on the cucumber :p

try to vary the diet of your otto (this was what kept mine alive until the accident).

cucumbers, other veggies also try the occasional algae wafer to see if the otto tries to munch on it :p but remove after a day ( o ya a good idea is to place the veggies in the tank during lights out :p)

Mine would never eat the algee wafers either. Mine liked blood worms they would chow down on them. I always liked to watch the little fellows..

My dwarf gouramis eat the wafers before the otos get anywhere near them.

I've increased my lighting levels to help bring on a little bit of algae (can control how many bulbs are on at any time though, so it doesn't take control of the tank) so the otos can eat that.

I also then include an occasional piece of vegetable for them. The bristlenose will clean up anything left in the tank overnight though, so i don't have to worry about picking out the pieces in the morning.
