get a test kit.

If you have a search - you'll see that otos are prone to dying when settling in. I try to find a shop that has had them for a few weeks (eg their stock is healthy) and then buy them from there.

If it died that quickly - I'd be taking it back :grr:

*nod* otcinclus are famously hard to acclimatise to a new tank. How long has yours been running? They like a very mature tank, so I'm told.

The first time I bought otos, one died in the first few weeks, as well. I did some research and found that that is not unusual at all. There is a pretty good article on them here:otocinclus

I'm sorry for your loss. It's always sad to lose a fish, especially when we try so hard to be good fishkeepers. :(

At least you still have three! :)

Good luck!

we've bought 6 over the last 6 months... the fist 3 lived for between 3 hours and 8 weeks...

I got a trusted shop to find out when they got their last lot in and bought 3 from them after 4 weeks... they are still with us now - after 4 months. They act totally different to the first 3 - they are really lively

So sorry to hear of the loss of your oto. I agree in that I would ask for either another fish or a refund as most good fish stores will do that.

I had to move my two otos from my small tank because the filter blew last night. They are in my 75 gallon and amazingly active and I guess happy. I decided not to move them back as they were certainly not as active and happy in the smaller tank.
