I have an otocinclus that has a white patch on the tip of his nose. I'm not sure if part of his nose is missing or if it is a fungus... None of the other fish show signs of fungus. The water level tests normal and there are no creatures that may be biting him. He's had this spot for about a week and it doesn't appear to be growing. Any suggestions or ideas?

I have two Oto's myself and have noticed something similar to your descriptions in one of mine. Though they're all healthy, one of them looks like it has 'snotty' nostrils, as if it has a cold.

Don't know why. My water quality has been fine for along time now, so more than sure its not because of it.

How're your Oto's reacting? Do you have a 'better' description on their behaviour, and the patch you've described? :)

My oto is acting nothing out of the ordinary. Sucks on the glass as usual, all day long. The white looks kind of like someone put some chalk on the end of his nose... can't tell if the tip looks like it's missing or not, but he's not acting any different. It's just on the very tip. I guess it kinda looks like he may have scraped up against some gravel or something, but other than that he's in perfect health.

I'll post a pic similar to what he has (edited w/ paint. Pic taken from fishinthe.net) in the members aquarium pics. Same topic title.

Hmmmm......I don't know what it could be.

It doesn't look furry, so don't think its fungus. Could it be its rubbed its nose on some chalk? Or something white had stuck to its nose, whilst eating/feeding?

Definitely too big to be white-spot. I don't know if Oto's are prone to Ich.

Sorry, I don't think I could help you with this.

Thanks for looking though. That's not the actual pic, but I had to do something. I'll try taking a pic of the culprit when I get off work, but he's so slick and loves to hide...

Thanks for you help!
