1 of my otos is acting weird. I think he's going to die.

He hasn't been himself swimming around the place as normal today. When I went to feed some algea tabs just nw I couldnt find him and finally caught sight of him behind one of the plants. I moved the plants away to get a better look at him and he trashed here and there and started swimming all over the tank frantically. Then he stopped swimming and then the current dragged his body. I got a net and then caught him and put an airstone under the net and he seems to be doing a bit better now, breathing properly as when I first started doing it he wasn't breathing at all.

Advice?

Tank has been under treatment for ich and a blackour a few days ago let the tank with no filtration for 3 hours.

Will get some test results soon.

edit - after a while in the net under some aeration, I let him swim off but he was very weak and floated to the top after a while. Continued the aeration thing but obvious that he can't breathe w/o it, and even with it, he still seems to be breathing very hard.

I just euthanised my first fish today since I started the hobby 6 months ago. Now I must find out what happened, and decide whether I should get more otos to keep my remaining 1 happy.

Thanks if you read this far, and I'm still wondering if you guys have any suggestions as to what might have caused this unfortunate incident.

Mods, maybe this should be in the Catfish thread now?

RIP oto, even tho' you never had a name, you were with me since the start and that says a lot.

if you're treating for ich do you have salt in the tank?
I ask because some people add salt when there are health problems forgetting that cats don't do well in salt.

Nope no salt.
And did 1/2 recommended dosage, as they advised that on the instructions. Jungle Ich Guard. Ich has been gone for some time now but I treated it 6 days since I last saw signs of ich. Today has been the 3rd day since finished complete treatment.

Otos are very sensitive to the changes in their environment - especially when it involves chemicals.

Thanks. That and the black out a few days ago must have been the reason. Only regret was that he didn't die a fast death.
