Oto Vs. Pitbull

I have a 12 gallon neon tank, that I would like to get some sort of small 'cleaning' type fish, that I will need to eat at least some algae off the sides of the tank. I really like the idea of having otos, but I'm open to getting the pitbull plecos if I have a hard time finding the otos. I do know that plecos are quite messy when it comes to their waste, but are otos the same? I've read that otos like to be kept in groups, do pitbull plecs also prefer to be kept in groups? Really any information you can give me on these guys would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i want a small alage eater too but ottos arnt messy but nned to be kept in groups of 4 or more and pitbull pleco are about 30-40£

Why would the otos not last long?

They're sensitive fish, as soon as food (algae) runs out, they'll fade away.

Also they are treated pretty harshly in the wild when captured, cyanide in the water etc, by the time they reach the shops they are almost starved (the ones that make it there), if buying otos wait till the shop has had them in a week or two and look for ones that actually have a stomach, i.e. look like thay have been eating, should be ok from there .....

Thanx all, I will have a shop around for the pitbull, although, if I come across some zebra otos, I think I just might snatch them up and give them a shot, or at least put them on hold for a week to see how they fair at the lfs, under your advice Kiriyama. By the way Kiri, stop following me! Just kidding of course, lol.
