I have two otos in my 34 litre tank (I had 3, one disappeared presumed dead). Have had them for 2 months.

They seem healthy enough, but you never see them eat. They don't touch cucumber, occasionally nibble courgette, and have made no discernible difference to the algae.

But they never, ever come to the front of the tank. They each have favourite spots at the back, and rarely change position.

Is this normal behaviour?

I thought they would be fun to watch but I never see them lol

otos don't make much of appearance really, and will probably be more active at night, they'll have active moments, but mine mainly lurks at the back. i have a lonely only one at the moment as his two little friends didn't last like this guy has. otos can be sensitive little beggers. i've lost several in my time of keeping them. they'll nibble on algae and cucumber, but again at night when noones watching, and they'll only really demolish certain algae like brown algae (diatoms) mine isn't a big fan of longer algaes or tough green algae, but i think he nibbles the plec wafers i put in for him every now and then, he always seems to have a nice round belly anyway!

Hi I have 2 otos as well,
Mine hide up alot during the day mainly at the back or corners of my tank,
They do like resting on logs or wood if you have any?
I add some algae wafers every couple off days which they like (My corys love them to)

i have 4 otos in a 10g with 2 female cherry barbs. the otos stick to the farther left corner of the tank whenever i see them, adhering to the terra cotta terrace i set up.

they never seem to move and the glass walls nearest to them are algae-free. nevertheless, two of them are usually sucking on them. they ignore the algae on the right half of the tank, ignore the blanched zucchini slices i put in, and ignore the algae wafers.

yet somehow, they have survived since 11/02/07. anyone know why, or how to get them to eat more?
