My three year old came down with this last week and we had to take him to accident and emergency as he started convulsing :-(
He is still coughing but its not sounding 'croupy' anymore.
My two year old now has the croup cough which I am keeping on top of with meds so hopefully he can stay away from hospital.
My not quite ten month old little girl now has it :-(

Any hints tips and tricks are gratefully taken on board, I'm one concerned mummy here :-/ xx

Well I remember my mother always said steam was the best way to treat/ease croup symptoms, but please don't avoid proper medical treatment, advice and diagnosis.

Sorry to hear that Shelster - mother's nightmare :(
Best wishes to all the little ones

Thanks guys, yes it's pretty frightening.

Fingers crossed they will all be over it soon.

So sorry to hear that Shelster! Witnessing your child having convulsions must have been just terrible! :(

I'm pretty sure the medical staff already gave you all the advice there is. Whenever you feel scared just bring them back in to the emergency! I hope your little ones will get over it quickly!

We had this with my daughter when she was 2 or 3 - we called out an ambulance to her. They recommended steam too, and it worked when she had another episode of it a year or so later. Into the bathroom, shut the door, put the plug in the sink and the bath, hot taps on full-blast, and it sorted her out within a few minutes, literally. Also had to use it on our youngest son.

Horrendously scary, but in our experience the steam thing does work.

Also horrendously scary was my second son having a febrile convultion - because his temperature had got so hot (he had an ear infection). We knew he had the infection (he was about 18 months old), he was under the weather, but not looking especially bad, so I went off to work as normal. I hadn't got 5 minutes up the road, when my wife called me and the only words I could understand were "Shall I phone an ambulance?" It really scared my older son too, who was only just 3 at the time - he hid under his comfort-blanket.

Ugh, it's just awful TLM - looking forward to when mine grow out of this (although equally not wishing their childhood away, as its all happening so fast)

Just hope they won't get it at every cold, and that it will be just a one off winter thing and that's it until next year :/

The worst thing is not knowing what it is, and you just think "OMG, THEY'RE GONNA DIE!!!!!" THe subsequent times ours have had it, we haven't panicked, it's just straight into the bathroom and 5 minutes later, all is well. Neither of the 2 that have had it, have had it after they were 3½.
