i have two medium sized oscars in a tank and at night i used to turrn the light off in my tank i added an african cichlid about a week ago, it was slightly larger then the oscars. the first night i turned my light off i got woken up by splashes from fish fighting. one of my oscars was floating on the top but is fine now. so now at night i have to leave the light on and in the last couple of weeks a green cloud has formewd in my tank i dont know what to do can anyone help?!!!!

In this case your african cichlid really seem to be having a go at the oscar(s). The splashes you said must have been pretty rough to wake you up. I would separate them straight away. Some oscars will live fine, but the fish in tanks just don't seem to be wanted together.

Oh, and as with the green cloud, I have no idea about that. It may be something with the fish. It totally renders me speechless.

well i will just have to take the african back to the shop... i was doing some research and i think the green cloud might have been caused when i havent been turning the light off at night it was affecting water quality or making algae. are there any other fish i can put in with my oscars that wont fight, p.s. i love my oscars and im nott getting rid of them heheehe :p

The "green cloud" was indeed algae. It came about due the lights being on all the time.

What size tank are your oscars in. Please give the size as WxLxH and the gallonage.

When you say medium size how big in inches??

CM

my tank is 4 foot ong 1 foot high and 1 foot wide , my oscars are roughly 12 cm's long.
