Searching Lake Ontario for tropical fish...No luck
I just got my Red Oscar...I love him. Now for my question tho:

I have 5 Silver Dollars, 1 Common Plec ( ) 1 Bala and 1 Red Oscar in my 90g. This is what I plan to do:

1. Move the smaller Silver Dollar into 29g since he gets picked on and is always alone

2. Trade in Bala for store credit

3. Buy a Tiger Oscar which is roughly the same size as my Red

End Result- 4 Silver Dollars, 1 Red Oscar, 1 Tiger Oscar, 1 Pleco in 90g (large footprint)

Would this work?

I think thered be enough room

hm.... a pair of oscars needs 75gs so i think they will be too crowded.

Sure some one else will chip in, i dont relly know anything bout the silver dollars

just had a look at the silver $ the only get the just under 6" which means the will probably become a snack for fully grown oscars :dunno:

no i ment a pair needs 75g's to themselves

i know they would be fine alone in there but didnt know if there would be ok with the other fish.

good luck i wish i had another large tank so i could keep oscars

Hi Drobbins,

I wouldn't get a second Oscar if I was you. I think, from what I've heard, that one Oscar gives PLENTY of entertainment to their owners. WHat I mean is......why cause potential tank problems with two when one will probably suit you perfectly!!! Also, I believe  , that Oscars a lot of the time preferr their OWN tank :D meaning no other Oscars :p

Do the other Silvers pick on that one?? Or is it the other tank mates??

Just curious!

God, that's so sad!! :-(

They may feel, instinctively, that a weaker member of the school will bring predators by :dunno:

I have no idea what I just said, but it makes sense doesn't it????

Really though, you could try keeping 2 in there so the one isn't so alone and when he is better try moving them both back?? :dunno:

I know your 90 gallon seems big now, but it will seem much smaller when you have a full grown oscar in it. We're talking about big, meaty, messy fish that often enjoy wrecking the place. If you do get a nicely compatable pair then it would probably work, but by just trying to lump two f them together is not such a good idea, IMO.

When we add new Oscars to a set up we remove the fish already in tank, move a couple of things round, add new fish, then put old fish back, it works for me. If things look a bit iffy have a few feeder shrimps on hand for distraction. Oscars are actually very peaceful as ciclids go, and do enjoy each others company. just one more thing, ,reds get on better with reds, tigers with tigers. mixed groups are always more scrapy

From my experiance with oscars and reading a lot on them. I wouldnt put no less then 5 or 6 together and you would need like a 500 gal tank for 6 oscars cause if you have only a few of them the strongest oscar will make the other weaker ones miserable. I had 3 oscars in my old 300 gal and all the one did was pick on others. If i where you I would stay with only one oscar.

your gonna run into major problems on the road ahead of you cause the sivers are either gonna die of stress from running or there gonna get eaten trust me my uncle has a 11 inch red oscar and hes a *****.those silvers are gonna be like feeders for him so i would recomend moveing the silvers. jus telling you some problems on the road ahead.
