Just as the title asks you always hear people saying they will at whatever they can fit in their mouth but I remeber someone having one with barbs and corys tetras were they just lucky or are they normally ok with smaller fish

Ionly ask as my girlfriend wats one but we have some small fish are they ok if they are raised with small fish

Thanks in advance for any advice

Oscars need a large tank of at least 55 gallons each if not 75g. They will eat anything that fits in their mouth so smaller fish are a definate no.

To house an oscar with tankmates you will need a tank of around 125g. It's not so much the aggression issue as oscars can be quite peaceful in some cases but they are very territorial.

Ditto glolite's advice. I wouldn't risk an Oscar with anything it could fit in it's mouth - not due to aggression but simply because if the opportunity of a tasty meal is there chances are they will take it.

Ok thankyou for the advice I just remember one in my brother in laws tank with small fish and he never used to eat them perhaps he was just lucky does it work if they are brought up with small fish or will they still eat them.

Sometime you get lucky. The only realistic method of this is to add the O as a juvenile. I heard of a blue gourami once co-habiting a tank with an O, and when the keeper ever tried to add anymore blue gourami's, the new additions were eaten straight away, but the one in the tank prior to the O was never touched. Personally, I wouldnt try it..especially with fish that could easily fit and get stuck in an O's mouth e.g. cory's....maybe try other tankmates, but that would depend on the size of tank...
