Recently upgraded my tank to a rio vision 450 :) On Saturday I get to put in my Oscar fish :) looking forward to it, now I want to feed em' stuff which will be healthy and bring out their colour, there is so many products out there which one to get, under some advice from my lfs i purchased some Tetra Doromin Cichlid Food Sticks.

I really want to spoil my Oscars, aswell as their daily food, I am likely to give them a weekly treat of blood worms

Would appreciate some advice, in what the best food is, I've seen these at my LFS;

Hikari Cichlid Gold
Hikari Cichlid Staple

Is the Hikari brand good?

In regards to treats, would do you feed your oscars, I hear a lot about beef heart is this easily accessible?

I stopped feeding Hikari foods as I was having problems with a few of my fish with aggression, it doesnt affect all fish but just in case they start turning nasty stop the Hikari food. Doramin is good, my oscars love that. A good variety is the key, as for treats, prawns, peas, mine like banana (but its messy).

Krill frozen or freeze dried, suitably sized earthworms from the bait or pet store, crayfish that are bite sized, meal worms, crickets, any fruits and veggies they might eat, and a staple pellet. Personally I've gotten away from the Hikari, in favor of the aqueon cichlid pellets.

I use non preserved food that I buy from my local fish society. My malawis seem to have great color and i feed them a mix of protein based flakes made from brine and krill, as well as vegetarian flakes made from various plant ingrediants. Just something to consider. Runs about the same price as store bought fish pellets.
