Oscar Experts And Other Alike

yikes. i've never enountered anything like that. my only advice is be careful and diligent with medications. if you can, i know its a 5 gallon tank, make pumba comfortable and give him lots of attention. i know that most oscars love human presence. also try increasing the heat to about 85 (slowly) and make sure there is plenty of air running in the tank. good luck.

I'll raise the temp a bit. He just got a bubbler in the treatment tank about an hour ago. unfortunately he is still non-moving and non-responsive with his gills going in and out

thx for the reply

Sorry to hear he's worse mate :(

Good luck and I hope he gets better :)

Oscars are damn strong fish (as you probably know) so big chance pumba will make it (i hope, fingers crossed) never seen anything like that either, the emergency section seems very slow lately, perhaps it may help posting the problem on some other fish forums too?

also it may be an idea to get in touch with the seller you got the pleco from? perhaps his fish have the same infection and he knows what it is and what to treat with? its worth an ask eh?

again iam stumped, dam shame, ok keep water changes very regular, daily, atleast 50%...
when my oscars got beat bad, they formed a white film all over there wounds, one was 1.5weeks laying on the floor, i did 50% waterchanges daily in my 566litre tank  ,,,,,,but to my amazment and everyone elses, they pulled through perfectly and all i did was waterchanges,,,,

hope you find out the problem, hope MISS WIGGLES Sees the post, shes good with these sorts of things :good:

slightly acidic shouldnt be a problem as oscars come from the amazon, which is acidic in the forest regiens......

good luck, dont give up until theres nothing more you can do,, i nearly felt like giving up with gandulf,, his li got ripped clean off, had huge wounds all over body,,,,now shes grown a new lip :hyper:

increase aeration and add some aquarium salt if you can, this will help with his gill function and reduce his stress

any news??
He's still in the 5gallon treatment tank. I noticed what appears to be Ich on the Blood Parrot and checked out the Oscar and he looks to have the same thing. The blood parrot is in a newly acquired 10gallon now. I would swap the Oscar and BP, but I don't want to move disease around and mess up the medication process I already have going with the Oscar. That Pleco brought in some bad stuff. I'm suspecting that because the tank was not fully cycled, his immune system was just down and he got hit hard.

Still no movement or improvement really.... but the white "fungus" appears to be going away. Gills are still going in and out really fast. Not eating either. Just dosed him on his second treatment of tetracycline. Hopefully he will start showing improvement by tomorrow.

If the tetracycline doesn't work, the guy recommended a broad spectrum treatment that should work. we'll see.

They said that the 2 other royal plecs were sold and had not been returned as of yesterday. They run a realllly clean operation....... so it seems very odd that this happened.

Thx, that gives me some hope.

looks like columnaris, more pics would help
I wish I could, he's just been hiding in a little cave and has not moved. That's as good as I can get at this point

He's got the bubbler in there and I did dose with some aquarium salt. I really don't think there is much else I can do except wait.

edit: Thanks for your help everyone. Much appreciated :)
