Just a question... we have a 48 gallon tank, planted with various grade gravel.
8 mth oscar, synodontis cat, giant gourami, 9 inches, and small angel.
Angel keeps nibbling at the gourami, oscar keeps pushing him around and the gourami has scarring down one side.
Are we doing the right thing or do we need to separate any of them.
Could we put the angel in with another tank of with an oscar of 3 ins and a jack dempsey of only 2.5 ins.
Any help would be appreciated.
or could we put it in with a discus of 3 ins and 11 cardinal tetras?

well im afraid the tank is waay overstocked and with those fish your gonna have aggression.

the oscar needs a minimum of 75 gallons to himself and will eat the angel and gourami when it grows (they can reach 16" and there mouths about that big too!).

if u rehomed the oscar then your other fish would have more territory to claim and probably wouldnt fight.

i have angels and gouramis together and they bother have claimed either end of the tank so they dont have to see eachother.

oscars need to be kept with other big cichlids and big fish.

theres a few smaller ones you could get away with but there things like RTBS because they stick to the bottom and are pretty fast so can hide easily. but again, your lookig at a tank of about 90 gallons before you start adding tankmates with an oscar.

same goes for your jack Dempsey, big, big tank. You must decide if you wish to keep angels gouramis etc or if you wish to keep tank busters which is what oscars and JD's turn into. That said both of the latter are terrific fish given the right tank.

The giant gourami will probably grow bigger than the oscar and the angel put together. 70 cm is the average and unless you plan on getting a huge tank later you are going to be overstocked with that single fish!

The angel would be better with the discus, not ideal but better than an oscar certainly. You need to have a plan of what you are going to do with the giant gourami when it gets too big for the tank, or take it back sooner rather than later.

Angels carry on them a disease that is passed on to discxus very easilly so i would not put him in with it. Also angels are greedy eaters and the discus won't get eneough to eat.

Like i say, not ideal but better than with an oscar!
