Oregon Reef

Well Im surprised an experienced marine owner would do that. The minerals in your tap would atleast hurt the coral and in his case, killed it....

He could of waited till morn with just his powerheads running in the tank and made a run to the lfs to buy some more ro/di and by then he woulda had some from his ro/di filter too.

Im sorry for his loss, especially the money aspect of it, but I guess he'll learn to always have water on hand from now on incase something like this happens again (that is, if he tries to rebuild the stocking)

Shame, sounds like he made some really basic errors which he should have known better to avoid. You'd think that if you are running a tank that big you ALWAYS have some saltwater mixed up, I know I would, I pretty much always have a bucket of SW mixed up just incase!.... Even if it was 200Gal, if you are going to take on the responsibility of a tank that big then you need to have the equipment or backup to match it.

Im not flaming it, far from it! I would be devistated if the same had happened to me, but it goes to show that sometimes you can't be careful enough, and leaving the tank in the middle of maintanence is a big no-no.
