Ordered A New Uv Filter.......

it wont prevent algae growth at all. It will destroy free floating algae but thats it

The UV light will only kill whats passed through the filter.... existing/non waterborne algae will be unaffected

my understanding is that all algae is free-floating before it sticks to the walls and decorations. when i had my uv running 24/7, it certainly prevented new algae from forming.

a UV is not just for algue its to help kill parasites in the free swimming stages

normal UV is great i wouldnt run a tank without one

never used this kind of UV but if it works its a great price

In most freshwater etups, UV is not necessary. As Rooster has said, the "problem" has to go through the steriliser, and that is not the case with sedentary algae growths. They can also kill free swimming/floating parasites if you have them.
