Orange Water?

Why would my tank have orange water?

I added a new charcoal filter, but that only reduced the problem.
My bog wood has been in the tank for a long time and this is only a recent occourance.
The other decorations are silk plants and a clay pot.

The clay pot seems like the most likely culprit, but i've found little info on such occourances. Also, it too, has been in the tank for a long time without issues.

I dont think there is any rotting matter.
I have another 10 gallon aquarium without this problem so I dont think its my tap water.

Can a clay pot start doing this over time?

My fish seem fine, should I be worried?

I'm not sure...the only thing I can think of is that the bogwood is finally starting? How long has it been in there?

See, thats the thing. Its been in there over three months and I boiled it & etc before putting it in. I HOPE someone will tell me that its just the bogwood. What do you think? Is that tooo long for the bogwood to start?

After this occurred we ran the wood under some running water and the water didnt change color.

I've taken the clay pot out. I'm curious if that makes a difference.

For any object that you really want in your tank but are suspicious of, you can put it in a big pickle jar or small quarantine tank or such and fill it with water similar to your aquarium. Then observe it for water color changes and even test it if you want to see if if makes water parameter changes.

Good point. I'll prolly end up trying that. I'm gonna go ahead and wait a while and see if the water clears up since I've removed the clay pot.
I figure that if its the bogwood its not gonna do much harm.
Maybe I'll put my clay pot in the quarantine tank if the water DOES clear up.
Unfortunately, my new Peacock Gudgeon is living it up in the tank for a while and if it IS the pot I dont wanna expose him to the yuckyness of the pot.

I bet you guys are right and it is the wood though. I'll have to wait and see. I just didnt know that bogwood could take that long to start seeping.

Very unlikely to be the pot, although I'm surprised that the bogwood has only just recently started leaching. Doesn't sound likely to me but I may be wrong. Test it out as mentioned. Sometimes bogwood will rot if parts of it are not completely petrified but this usually results in a whiteish slime on the surface that you can brush off. Any chance of a picture so we can see the colour. There's a possibility that its an algae or bacterial bloom. Have you made any recent changes in any way to your tank or carried out a more vigourous clean out than usual?
