USA,
i know that these are from asia, but many stores sell them as african cichlids. is there any info that any of yall can tell me about them? like maybe what tank size, and i also read they need salt. like aquarium or sea salt because they are suppoes to be brackish? And what can live with them?
i know theyre not mouth brooders, but my brother purchased one, and it has what resembles an egg spot. minght it not be an Orange Chromid?

thanks

I've kept them in hard fresh water with some salt , that's most likely why they they were mixed with Africans at your lfs .

They will breed in a community setting out in the open substrate spawners like some new world cichlids do .

They do best with salt in the water .

This will most likely be moved to the brackish fish forum soon .

good luck

look here

the one we have is long looking, not fatish looking like that. i will be moving it to a 30 gallon soon. would that be okay? and what other kinds of things can live with these cichlids?

a 30 would be fine , I think chromides are on the less aggressive end of the scale as far as cichlids go , so just about anything it can't fit in it's mouth should be o.k.

Nothing that requires soft water should be put in , some barbs may be able to handle hard water with salt added .

If I think of anything else , I'll be back .

sometimes it takes a little while , so have positively I.D'd your fish yet ?
