Hi we have a reasonably large Oranda in our tank which in the last couple of days has seemed off colour, and today her right eye is surrounded by a large 'bubble' like on a Cellestial is this normal or do I have a problem? She seems to be swimming alright though.

I don't know too much about goldfish but some more information will be helpful.

What size tank is the fish in, what are her tank mates, and what are your water stats (Ph, Ammonia, Nitrates)?

This information will help you find the cause of your fish's irregularity.

It sounds like your oranda has an illness known as pop eye, this needs to be treated ASAP and unfortunately it is caused by poor water conditions,
you will need to test your water to know for definite but it is likely this is why the problem occured,

I would personally do a 50% water change and then undertake 20% water changes for the next few days until the levels are safe.

Cheers for the advice went to Japanese Koi co. (local fish suppliers) who said the same so water change carried out although tested ok, also added some internal bacteria medication as advised, so hopefully should be ok?
