I am considering buying a Fluval Vicenza 260 to be placed in our rental home ground floor on laminate floor. The house itself is pretty new.

Clearly I must consider the weight of this thing on the flooring itself. All I know is that a similar tank with cabinet is the Juwel Vision 260 and that with water is just over 300KG.

Now it's one thing proving (somehow!) that the floor will take the weight it's another thing to reduce the risk by spreading the weight further. I'm thinking of some wood block surrounded by felt to go under the castors.

Does anyone have experiences to share or thoughts on the matter?

FWIW I do have contents insurance that includes water damage but I'd much rather take preventative measures...

Well, 300kg is about 47 stones ... which is about 4, 12 stone men. I'd happily let 4 men stand on the same spot in my house. The main thing is spreading the load over the maximum surface area available. Obviously castors will spread all the weight over four small points, which probably still won't be a problem. Think about a piano, they tend to be on four castors and they're not light (especially if it's a grand one. If you're worried, try and line up the castors, so that you're over different joists.
