Hello everyone!

I bought an AquaClear filter last night for my 29 gal tank. I understand I need to let BOTH run in the tank for a while before I take out my old one.

***How long should I let both run before taking out the old one?

Another thing, I found something called AquaClear Filter Insert Ammonia Remover. It's a little bag of white rock looking pebbles that fits into your filter. I had my brother on the radio and he told me to buy him one (he already has an AquaClear system).

***Any opinions on this product? He hasn't used it yet but I am very curious.

Hope everyone had a great holiday! :/

The longer you can let the 2 filters run together, the better. If it's possible to take the media from the existing filter and put it in the new Aquaclear filter, you may be able to just replace the old with the new and not have any problems. I would say you need to run them togehter for to 3 weeks.

As for the ammonia remover, it may or may not work but since your tank is already cycled (at least I assume it is) you don't want to use that product. If you remove the ammonia, there will be nothing to feed the bacteria and they will die off leaving you with an uncycled tank again.

AquaClear filters are GREAT! I love them, I use them on a few of my tanks. I never use so-called Ammonia Remover products in my tanks. If you are running a properly maintained tank you should never need to have a chemical to remove the ammonia the bacteria will do it naturally. I have no faith in Ammonia Removers anyways, they usually change ammonia into something else that has to be changed back into ammonia before being taken care of. So you end up with a worse problem than you originally had.
