while I have never had a marine tank, I have always wanted one.

I recently came across this deal on craigslist, and think I have have it for about 1/2 the listed price. (Asking $500)
So, is it worth it, and any tips for a newbie to the salty side of things.

>>This is the add<<

Established 120 Gallon Reef Aquarium w/Fish and Live Rock - Rock has been overrun with aiptasia. What a pain in the butt the stuff is when it gets out of control like this. You can take the rock if you choose or we can toss it. My price is based on the rock being tossed. All else is healthy and thriving. All mechanicals are in perfect working condition. With a lot of hard work injecting each aiptasia with kalkawasser the problem could be brought back under control, but it would take serious effort and time. I do have the killing supplies if you decide to take it on.

TANK

120 Gallon acrylic tank with oak veneer cabinet and canopy.
Acrylic sump with ETS skimmer
2 Power heads
Metal halide with power compact actinic lamp with balast
Tank is drilled and plumbed for air pump if you want to go all fish or decorative coral route
Brand new phosreactor -unused in box
Tons of accessories and spare parts
200 + pounds of live rock - (The rock is covered in nuisance Aiptasia Anenomies - you can choose to take or not - Price is reflective of the problem)
Large Green Mushroom Coral

LIVESTOCK:

1 Ocellaris Clownfish
1 Yellow Tang
1 Hippo Tang
1 Sailfin Tang
1 Blue Spotted Puffer (not reef-safe if you have small inverts, but is fine in this tank and has not touched the corals)
1 Hawkfish (not reef-safe for inverts)
3 Blue Green Cromis
1 Orange Spot Blenny

sounds like a really good deal...even with the aipistia problem...i've spent at least double that on a 55gallon already...
i mean the tank itself is worth close to $500...live rock is around $5/lb 200*5=1000... up to you, but if you don't want it i'll buy it lol

Sounds like an insane deal to me. The tank stand and hood is worth that much. Add livestock, LR, lights, skimmer, sump, and thats a STEAL. Go get it now . And when you get it, don't tell the owner, but find some berghia nudibranchs (for sale on the internet), and your aiptasia will be gone in days. Berghia are tiny obligate aiptasia predators. When all the aiptasia are gone they'll fade away and die and then your tank will be aiptasia free :D. If you can't find berghia, peppermint srimp will work too. Either way, I'd buy it!

that is an amazing deal even with the aiptasiasome pepermint shrimp or berghia nudibranchs and i would be gone, like ski said the tank stand and hood is worth that alone i would do it!

what id do is buy it, trade in all the fish, sort out all of the aiptasia prblem and then restock with your own choice of fish. This way you can get the tank exactly how you want it. just my .02

Easy way to piss me off..

I drive almost 2 hours (called ahead of time) with cash in hand, in a truck that gets 6 mpg.

I get there and the tank is sold and gone. Im for the most part a pleasent person, but I can be big and scary when pissed off. And I really hate having my only day off of the week wasted.

so unfortunetly, I left with a bad attitude and gas money... but on the lighter side, I didn't go to jail..

sorry to hear that
but on the lighter side, I didn't go to jail..
lol what did you do kick his door in or summin
are you still going to set up a marine?

I admit to having a temper, but his door remained intact. I still want to go marine. I have a 300 gallon tank coming already, though it is kinda planned for something else. If the right deal comes along, I will be going off the salt water end yet..
