Been chilly out here. And realised that I had unplugged my heater during a water change so as not to kill myself and then forgot to turn it on again. Doh!!!!!!

I'm sure I could see my 2 boys shivering............

They've survived though so I reckon these pair of platies will make it.

Lol yeh I did that yesterday. Did a water change n forgot I unplugged my heater, i'd sat down n had dinner before I realised. Evrybody seemed ok tho, water only went down 1 degree c.

Depending on the size of the tank and its location depends on how much of an effect you'll notice.

I was placing my timer into the plug socket for the lights but due to the overlap it had flipped the switch for the heater on my 125l tank. I noticed the next day that the water had dropped by 2 degrees (this is coming up to 24 hours) and I quickly worked out what it was. No side effects, I'm sure my fish thought they had gone on holiday to a cool country.

If it happens again there's nothing wrong with topping up the tank with warm water to take it back up. However make sure the water is at a good match and do it gently and over time. As if you were acclimatising the fish. By match I mean not adding steaming water to the tank!

If all you have in the tank is platies, they will be fine at any typical room temperature for at least a few days. I tend to run my platy tank in the low 70sF, figure around 22 to 23C, if there are no other fish it might bother.
