Was working in the garage today on my beanie barracks when I glanced over into the grow-out tank in there and to my horror spotted a pair spawning! There was a very small bubblenest and eggs in there already and they were embracing well with plenty of eggs falling. The other siblings were getting chased away from the nest in between times and there were nipped fins all round.

I quickly grabbed some craft canvas and report binders and made a divider and managed to slip it into the tank at the end where the nest was. Thankfully all but one fish stayed on the right side of the divider with the spawning pair. I managed to net her out quite quickly and then left them for a couple of more embraces.

The female wasn't very big but was quite willing to keep embracing but the male started to chase her away and I decided that it was best to remove her as they are only 14 weeks old and a little young I thought. The male is now tending the nest of about 30 eggs. I guess many were eaten by the others before I spotted what was going on.

I knew it was overdue to move the males but my barracks was taking longer than I thought and I had run out of room to separate the males so one or two were still in the grow-outs :/ I'll have to watch carefully till they are free-swimming and syphon them out with a turkey baster and put them into another smaller tank.

Don't have pics of the pair but the male is white and the female was metallic blue. Goodness knows what will come of this one  but lets hope I get as nice fry as Wuv did
