:*) Last sunday i bought 2 clown loaches. The minute I released them into my tank, I noticed a few small white spots on one of them and panicked as I thought it was ich. I have never had ich in my tank before and tried to catch the fish to take him/her back to the lfs.

No chance!!!! hiding under the filter housing never to come out - or so it felt like.

Monday morning I'm straight down to the lfs to buy some treatment. I've been treating the tank for 5 days and the spots are going , then the next day some more appear.

Just read a few threads on this forum which say only treat clown loaches with half dosage. This is where my worry starts. I didn't know this and have been giving full doses. Will I have done much harm? How long does ich take to go?

Any advice most welcome. Thanks

Hi Bubbs,

What form of medication are you using?
And what are your water parameters? If you test for hardness (GH) and calcium (KH) and PH, it may make a difference as to how much you can dose, dependant on the meds you have chosen....

in future bubbs, check for white spot before putting in the tank!

Good luck anyway. -_-

Ps what similar names we have - are we related?

Clown Loaches are very likely to get ich when they are transported. The best way to treat ich on loaches is to raise the temperature of the tank 2 or 3 degrees. Also, a full dose of medicine can be used. I used IchClear by Jungle at full dosage and the ich was gone on my loaches in 3 days. I have also had success with RidIch+ by Kordon.

I've been using Sinclairs white spot medicine. All spots seem to have gone today but will use one more dose I think.

Only thing is that it did not tell me to remove the carbon sponge, should I do this?

Thanks all for your replies.
