you know how you see those adorable fishie eyes and that cute little face, and all those pretty fins and you just NEED to have that Betta?

i've run into the opposite.

my LPS takes good care of their fish, if ever a Betta can't fit or doesn't belong it is given it's own tank. they open up their merchandise JUST to give a Betta a decent gallon tank. well, they have one boy left. he's in a Guppy fry tank. i asked why, they said since they were given the fish and using them as feeders they might as well just leave the Betta there. alright, interesting idea. i decided not to go against it since he is indeed quite fat and looks happy.

the thing is, he's ugly. oh sure, he's a GORGEOUS blue-black with steel blue fins, but his face is squashy, like a bulldog. his fins are short, though no signs of rot or chewage, and his tail can't decide whether it's single, delta or double. the top lobe sort of curves a bit in, but not enough to be a true doubletail. it doesn't span a full, round delta shape, nor the sport the veil.

but i just must take him home!

perhaps i'll keep him in my Betta-hex until i get him a proper tank next week... i certianly can't have him being bought by someone else -gasp- oh heavens NO!

save that poor ugly duckling!!!! you know no one else will, because he's not pretty.

It's called "character". :D

Yes and if you breed them you never know maybe they have some hidden traits in there genes and maybe he will have great offspring ;) :p
