Bugger! I just got home and my female dwarf gourami is looking like someone inflated her! She's got all the classic dropsy symptoms... puffed up, spiky scales and laying on the bottom. I've NEVER seen this before!!
I've moved her into my floating breading plastic thingy so the other fish don't beat her up and droped in some of the jungle buddies parisite stuff in the tank.
But I think it's game over.. any suggestions?
I don't want to have to..
 kill her.. I don't think I have the guts for that
And I don't really have anywhere to isolat her..

:( Your Gourami sounds like she has dropsy. I had several cases of dropsy with mollies and have treated it successfully with Jungle Fungus Clear Tank Buddies.

How large is the tank?
What other fish are in the tank?

And . . . :hi: to the forum. Be sure to introduce yourself in the Newbie section!

You have cured dropsy? You lucky so and so. I have never ever had a fish survive it. I will have to find me some of that Jungle stuff. Know if it's sold in Canada by any chance?

It's a 33 Gal tank, it's a community tank with..
2 pearl gouramies
2 dwarf gouramies
4 platy's
2 otos (can't find one right now  )
3 pygmy cory's
10 red eye tetras

I used the jungle parasite one.. will that work?

Thanks for the welcome
:) I'll intro myself asap

:( Well, the Jungle Parasite Clear only helps internal and external parasites. For dropsy, you need to get Jungle Fungus Clear.

Are any of the other fish showing any signs?

My two Panda Corys got dropsy and pop-eye a few weeks ago (one had pop-eye, the other dropsy). The one with pop-eye didn't survive, but the one with what I think was dropsy did. His tummy is smaller now and he's acting like a healthy Panda Cory, so...

Anyway...I used Mardel's Maracyn Two to treat them. Had to treat the whole tank 'cause I didn't have a hospital tank.

As far as Otos missing, I often can't find one or both of mine 'cause they hide well on plant leaves and such. Perhaps that's where your missing one is?

Good luck with the fishies  Keep us updated!

Edit: Make sure when you get something for the dropsy that you get a product that treats internal bacterial infections.

now I have to like.. ewww despose of her.. anyone live in victoria want to come a do it for me *grossed out* :( poor fish

oh im sorry to hear about your fish.....we just lost one of our 6 pack of tiger barbs yesterday to dropsy :( i tried one of the available meds here in the uk + melafix but just didnt work either very sad!!

I don't mean to sound harsh, but it may actually be a good thing that she passed away. Not only do fish that get dropsy sometimes suffer skeletal and internal deformities, but dropsy is EXTREMELY contagious!!!!! It could have spread rapidly. A long time ago, there were HUGE epidemics of dropsy in Europe, killing tons and tons of fish. It is a nasty viral disease that not many fish survive.

Sasha--are you sure that was dropsy? It may well have been scale protrusion which is actually caused by a bacterium rather than a virus. Jungle fungus clear does contain some medicines for bacteria, but I don't know that it can cure dropsy. It is an extremely tough and virulent disease; oftentimes, in bad cases of dropsy, surgical treatment may even be required as well as medications.

Lizard--keep a good eye on your panda cory. Dropsy has been known to recurr; you may not be out the of woods quite yet. This disease has to be one of the all-time nastiest that I know of.
