Please help me, i've just come home from work to find all but one of my fish have died. I removed all of my poor fishies and did a 50% water change. I dont know what to do, my poor plec is now all alone and i dont want to lose him as well.

The fish were all fine this morning when i left, all looked healthy and swimming happily.

The dead fish have all turned very pale, the cat fish have what looks like fin rot and the tetras have got brown spots on them.

Also the temp of my tank has shot up

Please Please help me, i dont know what to do, is my plec going to be ok? :-(

How high did your tank temp go? Did the water seem unusually hot when you removed the corpses?

You have done the right thing doing a 50% water change. Make sure your heater is working properly. did it get bumped causing the temperature to increase?

Also, what are your ammo/nitrite/nitrate levels like?

You will need to add anti internal bacteria med to the tank, my fancy goldfish had brown spots when my husband fetched her home, I used antibiotics and it cleared up.

Sorry for your loss. Your tank is a bit overstocked. Check your readings, you may have had an ammonia/nitrite spike. Of course you already did a water change so your present readings won't tell you much. With a crowded tank make sure you are doing reg. weekly water changes. How high did the temp. shoot up? That seems to be the obvious first problem.

It could of been bad water quality and a high temp that caused the death of alot of the fish, sorry for your loss, if your heater is playing up it might be wise to buy a new one so it dosn't happen again.
