Did you know the that pets at home stock tropica plants? Don't touch their fish... but their plants are cheap and a bargain... in my local one you have to go in on the day of the plant delivery (weds) because they sell out in two days.

I get them from Pets at home but I check for new stock every day

I work next door so dinner hours are spent counting dead fish, bad labelling, incorrect names and 1ft tanks with 40 RTBS etc.

I only buy stock on the first day because they are rank after a few days of bad lighting, no ferts, poor water and total cramming of pots + stacking them on top of each other

3 tropica pots for £9 can't be bad.

absolutely agree.

it always makes me laugh (well, figuratively speaking), when you go in there and there's tons of dead fish... and they have tanks with a little green label saying 'fish undergoing treatment, not for sale' but the bleeding tank is on a centralised filter system - so there's no way they treatment is staying in the tank, nor the illness.

The plant deal rocks tho - BTW - only buy plants from the cascade, not from their stock tanks.

i hate pets at home all there plants have snail eggs on them i washed plants for days still theres snails i will never go there again

You buy plants from anywhere you are most likely gonna get snails. Fact of Life. They are not kep in isolated treated water otherwise they would have dangerous levels of copper on them when you buy them and if like me you put plants straight into your tank then the fish, inverts and snails would be suffering

How often do they seem to get new stock would you say? I've asked before and they told me they order on an adhoc basis.

Theres a place local to me that I haven't managed to visit yet that sell tropica. They have an ebay store, but they are an actual LFS:

Based in Coventry, Midlands. Prices seem reasonable...

The one near me is probably every couple of months. Sometimes the tropica tank will only have a few pots left in it in really bad condition. lol

Yeah, its a real shame :(

Still, I managed to find a really nice Anubias nana the other week, along with some relatively healthy java fern "narrow" which was cool :)

Wish they would sell some decent mosses.

Aquaessentials also have an offer on their tropica plants:

Buy 3 of the same get 10% off

buy 5 of the same, get 12.5% off.

Problem being that the average person doesn't want 3 or 5 of the same plant.

Tropica pots (when new and not old and dead like they get in P@H) tend to be crammed full anyway.

I bought a Rotala Rotundifolia, Ludwigia Repens and Alternanthera Reinecki recently (at the £9 deal price) and once I'd prised them apart and planted them they had filled the substrate of my background. This was after discarding a fair few too.

Good value Tropica plants but I can't see many people wanting 3 pots of the same unless its something like HC or HM or hairgrass etc.

I agree slightly on the buy more than 3 and get a discount, typically I buy a few plants every few weeks, this is to stop me replacing all of my stems at once in my tank which only switched to EI a few weeks ago. Still, this week I am replacing some plants in my 15-gallon and re-scaping my 5-gallon entirely, so I did order 3 pots of one plant.

I will stick to using AE unless someone can have a superb experience elsewhere with a noticeably cheaper supplier. I have tried Dartford, and whilst they have apologised and offered a free replacement plant, I am not convinced they sell Tropica plants. Tropica themselves stated that unless a plant is sold in a Tropica branded pot and had the relevant care tag it was not a Tropica plant. Not sure if P@H have these labels on the pots but they do advertise as selling Tropica plants.

Yep. Tropica pots and plant ID cards. I double checked this as a result of the Dartford Aquatics post earlier :) As said above though, just have to get there at the right time before they've died off etc :| I'm going to swing by on my way home this eve and check them out.

I tried ordering plants from there a few weeks ago however the courier service lost the package. The communication wasn't great, I constantly had to chase things up. I was eventually refunded for the whole order, Im sure that was just bad luck on my part.

Bugger :| Oh well, hopefully their stock is good and picking it up locally will be better...
