I almost missed this, so I’m glad I was able to log on today to mark it.
Today, July 10th, marks one year since I joined TFF! I have learned so much from all of you, and I hope I have been able to give advice that would help others as well. I thought I would give a little “how it started vs how it’s going” update, and explain some of my plans for the future.

How it started:
I technically started my fish keeping journey when I was very young and my mom bought bettas for me to keep, but I don’t really like to count that as “fish keeping” because it really wasn’t, I just had a fish. Enough said, lol.
I actually started my journey in the summer of 2020 when my mom decided we should get some fish for our large trough that we used to water our garden. We originally bought the .90 cent comet goldfish, but they all died within a day. Next, we tried two double tailed goldfish, and those lasted for a week or two. Finally, we tried three fancy goldfish, and all three survived. When the end of fall came, we realized our trough would freeze solid during the winter, so we frantically searched for a good tank that wasn’t too expensive. We ended up with a pre-owned 30g tank that came with a heater, filter, substrate, net, and a stand. I still have the 30g, although unfortunately all of the goldfish have passed away due to my previous inexperience. Due to this inexperience, I decided to join TFF, which was a very good decision!

How it’s going:
I now have the 30g plastic tank, a 10g tall plastic tank, and a 10g long planted tank. My stock is currently one female adult bumblebee platy, her remaining 6 babies, one fry from a previous red wag platy, two different fry from a blue spotted platy, and two nerite snails. Until I am able to move a coupled of the smaller fry out of the 10g tall, I have a cycled 5g bucket set up just in case I need to isolate someone.

Plans:
I am planning on swapping my 30g from all plastic to mostly natural, with river rock substrate, driftwood, Vallisneria, Amazon sword, and hopefully some kind of pleco and some other small, peaceful community fish to go with my platies. In my planted tank, I want a betta with a mystery snail. Now that I know how to take care of fish, I would love to see the difference between a betta that I can actually take care of vs a betta I had when I was younger. I would eventually like to swap my 10g plastic quarantine tank to natural as well, but for now, I need to focus on the 30g.

It’s late so I won’t be able to get pictures of my tanks tonight, but I can tomorrow and I will update the post :). Thank you all so much for being so helpful and kind whenever I posted my struggles with my tanks, it’s getting much better and I’m so excited to continue my fish keeping journey!

Happy anniversary @foxgirl158!!
I really like the plans you have for the 30g and how you want to make it natural! Sounds really good.
Just be careful about whichever pleco you get cause they have a HEAVY biol-load.

Sounds like you have learned a lot just like many of us have by being here Fox. And I'm glad you decided to join.
