Man I'm so unbelieveably mad/upset/sad right now! I went to feed my new baby Royal Clown Knifefish this morning and was absolutely shocked to see that ONE OF IT'S EYEBALLS IS GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After much :-( :/    I finally brought myself back to the tank to see him eating his food as if nothing had happened. I've kept large predatory fish for a number of years, but I have never had this happen. He's in a seperate 55 gallon tank by himself, and I made absolutely sure that there was nothing sharp in there for him to potentially hurt himself on. But somehow, my gorgeous young knife now lacks his left eye. He swims normally, if now slightly tilted to one side, and eats normally.... But is there potential infection dangers? Should I get him in my hospital tank with Melafix? Or should I just let him go as he is now?

It breaks my heart to see my little darling with an enourmous hole in his head, not to mention the fact that if he does grow up, he'll still be missing that eye... :-(

how long earth did that happen? :/ sorry to hear about it. But i've never had one of those and dont' have any useful advice to offer :-( still asd to hear about it tho

I have a leopard danio that has one eye, he is totally fine.
in fact he's quite a boosy fish. I did however get him this way,
so I proberbly would treat against infection with something. :D

If you're concerned, give it melafix. I have an oscar that lost an eye around the time I got him and he's fine. VERY bossy and a little grumpy sometimes.

Things went dramatically downhill yesterday. His other eye fell out, along with many of his scales. He ignored his food, and quickly became emaciated. I believe it was Fish Tuberculosis, at least, thats what the symptoms seemed to be.

Regardless, I euthanized my little guy, and have drained that tank completely. I suppose I could start over with a new one... but my heart really isn't in it now. :-(

Oh well, life goes on -_-

Sorry for your loss. How long did it take for him to become emaciated?

Poor little guy :(
Sorry to hear he didnt make it, sounds like he was loved very much.

:rip:

(Be careful if you think it may have been fish TB, its contagious to humans)

thats scary......and disgustingly sad.......i'm sorry for your loss....that sounds bad whatever it was. your other fish wouldn't happen to have it would he? and does TB really cause you to just fall apart like that?! i don't know anything about it......but i've never heard of something that could make a living thing just start falling apart! thats.....creepy....

Truely sorry that u lost your little guy, that's soooo sad. :-( I hope u can figure out what it is so it won't happen again, but i've never heard of that before.

thats is the most horifying thing i have ever herd of. :( sorry for your loss. That happened to me bit my baby didnt fall apart. He was only the size of a nickle when i bought him and he never grew. One day about 3 months after i got him ( oh yea he was an angel) he was at the bottom of the tank with a spine stiking out his side... Very scary and sad. :(

sorry to hear about your loss.

you do have to be very careful when handling and disposing of fish that you feel had tb. it is very contagious to humans. don't think i would use the tank or equipment again.
