so my barb tank... is slowly developing into an Asian tank... it still has several black cory's in it, but the wrong substrate for Cory's so I'll likely move them when I set up the next tank... Cory's are currently growing & healthy, but maybe I'll pull the under gravel filter plate, & put a thin layer of actual "sand" in the next tank, just for the black Cory's, as I really like those

I just ran across a fish I had never seen, that I think would replace the Cory's in this tank, when I decide to do that... I find them really interesting... any of you guys ever kept them... @WhistlingBadger may fit into one of the tanks you have been building???

they are calling them Red Lizard Hillstream Loaches...\

Oooooooo! I've never kept that species, but I want some! What a cool looking fish. Looks like they need a good size tank, lots of water movement, and regular big water changes. They don't really fit my setup. I hope you get some so I can see some in action.

Wow really cool looking fish ❤️
I'd love to have one too but never seen or heard of this sp 🥲
Light color sand for black cory, that matches like pepperoni on pizza 👌👌😅

I have 4 spotted Hillstream loaches coming for my Asian tank next week… while surfing at Dan’s fish I spotted this Red Tail Hillstream… was really tempted, as I’ve never even seen reference to this fish, but with Christmas coming better keep my orders in check…

Smart decision, but wow, what an interesting and odd fish. I've never seen those.

alien like from another country, or alien like from another world ;)

most all of the fish in my Asian tank are "alien"

Thinking more like those fry will jump out of the tank, slide into my ear, while I'm sleeping, & infect my brain, & make me a Hillstream Zombie...

... BTW @Back in the fold ... what is the fish in your avatar??? looks kind of alien to me ;)

@WhistlingBadger ... I have a couple Tea plants coming for this tank... I'm going to try them in the hang on planters I use, full of the ceramic media, growing hydroponically, that I've used on my other indoor plants growing out of my aquariums... I think I remember you had some Tea plants going in one of your tanks... how is that going???

I finally took the tea plants out a week ago. They were just slowly dying. I've talked to a few tea growers who have told me that tea hates having wet feet, so maybe it isn't the best for hydroponic. I might try again at some point if I can figure out a better way to do it. Let me know how yours goes.

I've had good luck with some plants "that don't like their feet wet" doing the ceramic media hydroponically... apparently there is a difference between wet soil, & hydroponic, for some plants... I was going to buy 2 of them... but now maybe I'll try one 1st... I usually rinse all the soil off the roots, & then set them in the pot, & sprinkle in the ceramic media, lifting up on the stem, to spread the roots out... shaking it down, as I go, until the pot is full... sometimes plants take a little bit to get going, but I either put them in waterflow from a filter or powerhead ( not direct flow ), or put an air bar under where the pot is, ideally the roots are getting water circulated around them, & so far everything I have tried, is growing...

@Magnum Man You want Khan’s Loaches to get in your ear and make you susceptible to suggestion ? I think Chekhov and Captain Terrell demonstrated quite convincingly the pain of that . The fish in my avatar is a female Aplocheilus lineatus Golden Wonder killifish . That’s one of my home grown ones .

Got 4 spotted Hillstream Loaches today… wow! Are they little, the other Hillstream’s are the smallest in the tank, and the new spotted are 1/4 their size… Tin Foils are 10-15 times bigger… so far they haven’t even tried tasting them yet 🤗
