Here is my last russian dwarf hamster named hammy , he came from a batch of pups last august, the parents have now been passed on to friends and the other pups have been given away to friends.

he was the runt of the litter, and has done surprisingly well for a runt, he feeds and drinks well, and his over all health is good. he has lots of character, i can put my hand into the cage and he will come out of his coconut and climb up my arm, demanding a treat

he is my favourite out of all that i have owned, he went through a rough patch when he was growing, he wouldnt eat for days on end which had me worried, so i had to put vitamins in his water to keep him healthy, eventually he started eating again and ever since then he has been at optimum health :good:

im going to trim his claws tomorrow.

aawwww!! soo cute!!

but i do like the chinese dwarfs more! they are much more interesting and active!

theyre not nasty when tamed, a dwarf hamster will stay tame as long as its owner handles it regularly, and its important to get the bonding process right, start by rubbing your hands on some tissue and place it in the cage, do that for about 3 days, then clench a fist and put it in the tank for 5 minutes a day for a few days, then place a treat on the back of your fist and do that for a few days (by this point the hamster will begin to learn your scent), then place a flat palm into the cage for 5 minutes everyday when there active until they climb onto your hand, do this a few times, until theyre happy on your hand and then it up and using your index finger, stroke down its back a few times and then put him back do this a few times, and they will know your not there to hurt them, as long as you handle regularly they will stay tame.:good:

thanks for the nom and kind comment wilder :good:

Looks ready to go on an epic voyage across the fish tank in his coracle there lol!

Will definitely get one of these for my daughter in a year or so - It is getting harder to walk through P@H these days without spending more and more time looking at rabbits and hamsters :)

if its for your daughter, i suggest you try a syrian first, once tamed they stay tame forever, and they are bigger, so handling is easier :good:

also avoid cages with the fancy pipe work

1 they smell really bad as they pee in them
2 theyre a pig to clean
3 they fall apart easily

I work at pets at home and love the russians but hate the roborovskis lol

What are you doing atm truck, sounds like you really have a thing for animals, you should do a degree in animal biology at nottingham trent uni, lol. I sound like a spokes person, i had nearley completed the course and its amazing, now im going to do another in plymouth (masters in biology). You sound like you have way too much time on your hands, drinking at 10:30 lol

ciao,
andrew

how old are you and what do you have (qualifications wise); im not being nosey just trying to be helpful lol. The conservation biology course i am doing next year will have marine biology on it, hence why im hanging around pestering the marine seciton on here atm (and your new journal truck :p).

I hate the robbies, have seen steff loose them cos they have flung themselves on the floor for no reason :p

If you do do a biology degree you will learn so much, it makes you think about stuff much more lol

ciao, andrew
