Hi,

I haven't been on here in awhile but I was wondering what people's thoughts are on this. Initially I had 5 Marbled Hatchetfish, but their numbers dwindled and now I am left with just one. I really have no interest in getting any more Hatchetfish - one jumped out of the tank while I was feeding (which I knew could happen but didn't think actually would) and though it survived the ordeal (despite flying past my German Shepherd on its way to the floor) it is not an experience I would care to repeat. Still, I feel bad that he has no other fish to school with (the Tetras are pretty cliquish and don't want anything to do with him). I'm thinking about asking around to see if there is anyone in the local aquarium club who keeps Hatchetfish and would like to take him, but he is at least 3 years old and I don't want to cause undue stress by moving him since he seems healthy and is eating well as it is.

What do you guys do when you only have one or two of a schooling species remaining and you don't want to continue keeping that species?

I haven't had that issue yet but I will. I have two columbian sharks and when I bought them I thought they were freshwater. After I found out they weren't I set up a 55 for them. Once these two are gone I dont want to do brackish anymore. So when one dies I probally won't get a replacement because if I did it would be a endless cycle.
