Hi guys,

I have just brought some Medaka rice fish in a garden sunroom patio pond . They arrived Wednesday after a 24 hour journey in the Mail . When they arrived initially they all seemed not very active which I expected was stress . Only I ordered adults 2-3cm I was sent 6 at just below 2cm and 4 at just over 1cm they looked not a lot bigger than my existing fry , the smaller ones took longer to get swimming around , not impressed but they seemed okay . Over the last few days they have been pretty active but I did notice two smaller was missing presumed was hiding in plants . I have feed a mixture of brine shrimp and fry food as 3 times a day very small amounts as they were too small to eat the normal food . It’s really sunny and hot today their colours have become really bright , they are all really active swimming at the top . Swimming around the air stones , just incase they wanted more oxygen as it hot I put another one in . The water temperature increased by about 7 degrees from yesterdays hottest . They also look to less skinny than when they arrived . However I have just notice a really small Skinny one floating on its back at the top, still alive . I think this is one of the missing small one , it had no colours . I put it in a separate empty fry tank had plants so put the fish in a isolation box so it was resting on the plastic base with an air stone and food . Only gone back and I can’t find the fish seems to have come out of a hole at the side . I have tested the water which is fine . Is this Likely a death due to stress/ being to small ? The other smaller fish seem to feeding with the group but should I separate them into a different tank ? I have never had an issue with my existing rice fish always been very hardy so not sure if I should tank any action/ treatment of this tank

Many thanks

Sounds to me like stress from the travel. It's a real bummer but it happens. Definitely do *NOT* treat the tank with ANY meds when you don't know why the fish is sick or dying. You could hurt everything else in it. Just increase water changes and keep water parameters good.
