I dont know why but something about blackmoors and orandas draw me in everytime i go to the lfs....just their unique appearance? im quite the oddball fan..
Was wondering what would be a nifty little set up for one or POSSIBLY two.

as of right now i have a 20 gallon tall tank...which ive read is not nearly large enough...of which i will have to beg my parents to let me upgrade to a larger tank via craigslist as long as i sell my 10 and 20 gallon tank...only allowed to have 2 tanks right now and im not getting rid of my archers in my 65 gallon anytime soon!

So as ive read most types of fancies can get quite large.
So here are my questions.
-smallest tank size for an oranda and a black moor? dont think id be able to push it beyond 30-35 gallons..so if so i might just have to stick with one then? Id prefer an oranda...

-And filtration i have 2 20 gallon HOB filters and a birthday coming up so canister filter might be on the list...so in other words, filtration isnt really a problem...

-food wise, Processed goldfish food with mixed veggies from time to time yes?

-Decor: Keep pointy/ sharp objects to a minimum due to the bubbly/puffer body textures/sacks that the different types have been bred to have

-lighting:doesn't really matter however was hoping i could utilize some hardy plants.....any recommendations for plants they wont eat?

-temp: Cold water obviously...could i just go no heater? it will probably stay around 72 degrees Fahrenheit for most of the year, minus the summer months which ill be floating frozen water bottles

- Is there anything you can keep with them that wont hurt the goldfish or the goldish cant catch/ harm? Any sort of amphibian or zippier kind of fish?

thanks all!

Hi 30 gallons would be fine for 2 goldfish.you can keep mountain minnoes in there with them they are a lovely fish.

I wouldn't risk WCMM with goldies tbh, I've heard a lot of stories of the minnows getting eaten when the goldies get large enough!

30g should be fine for two goldies, as long as they're one of the smaller, fancy varieties (orandas are one of the larger ones, unfortunately), and you should have two as they are a social fish and it's really not fair to just have one.

Plants are tricky with glodies; they will eat them, but you should have some anyway; it's part of their natural behaviour to nibble at plants. Elodea is cheap so you'll just have to resign yourself to buying another bunch every so often! They should leave Java fern alone, but I can't promise :)

Thanks fluttermouth!
then ill probably do a Black moor and one more type...any suggestions for a second? preferably a different type of gold, but as you say one thats not one of the larger ones?

Fantails/ryukin get to about 6"/15 cms, which is a more sensible size than the oranda (which can be more like 8-12"/20-30 cms).

Im thinking ill just do figure eight puffers rather than goldfish, but thanks for all the help and info! Will see about doing a gold fish tank later on in the future.
