hi, i'm just wondering..if a male betta turns out to be an egg eater, should he be bred again or will he end up eating his next batch too?

the reasoni'm asking is becase one of my males that i tried to spawn happily ate every last one of the eggs, and i'm wondering if i should try and breed him again or make him wear a big tag saying "I EAT BABIES" :)

I think it depends on the betta... sometimes the male will stop his habit of eating the eggs after a few spawn attempts, and sometimes he will continue doing so each time you spawn him.

in my experience-yes.
i have tried multiple times to breed my red ct. he and his sis always have a huge spawn but he eats every last one of them every single time. :(

Most of the long time Betta Breeders I've talked to in my local Betta Assoc. say that just because they eat them the first or second time, does NOT mean they will always be egg eaters. They've all had males that ate the eggs the first time, then figured it out the next and were great dads. But then again, most have also had the ones that will always eat the eggs, it just never clicks with those males. So I'd say definetly give him a couple more tries, what do you have to lose? My most recent spawn (the one I kept the journal of on here) was eating all the eggs, but I'm certainly going to try him again, he's too nice a fish not to give him the chance, and if he eats them again, I'll try him again and again. Although if he does it say 4 times in a row, then I'll probably give up on him, Lol.

lol okay it seems like it depend son the fish here :p but ur right i think i'll try him again and see if he gets the message. -_- if after 2 tries or 3 tries and he still eats all the eggs i might just leave the female in instead of the male nad see what ahppens if i let her tend to the nest ;)

i've never heard of femlaes doing nest work, most females usually eat the eggs lol :D
not true I have heard of several females tending the nest. and CC had both doing the nest.....and most females arent egg eaters either. I May try another spawn of one of my females and I may ler tend the nest , because she is such a good one.

yeah strange as it was  if i spawn that female again i may let her tend to the nest since she was tending to it with the male, so you nver know :p

as for him..well he's grounded :grr:
