Morning fish lovers,

Please help, i have woke up this morning and found that my male kribensis is guarding my big back plant at the back of the tank... so i had a major look to see if i can see anything?...OMG there are about 15 maybe 20 little white eggs at the back on a huge leaf, mummy keeps going over and also checking on them...keepin other fish away...What i need to no is!!! they are a white/yellow colour is this right? :

how long b4 they hatch?
mummy keeps stucking them but not eating them is this normal and what she doing?....fluffing them up!!!
are they going to be ok?
shall i feed the tank so they dont get eaten?

Just what to do now really...

any answers would be gr8, many thanks asap!!!

HNL_FISH................SO EXITED!!!

If they are a sort of goldeny colour they should be ok. If they are solid white they might be infertile. They are really feisty fish and will keep the rest away so it is probably alright to just let them do their thing. Mine raised some to maturity in quite a heavily stocked community aquarium with even angelfish and a false siamese algae eater in it. If they don't get it right, never mind. They will breed again, and again, and again... :)

1st off all congrats on the eggs.
I dont no much about them but i do no that what she is doing is fanning them to keep them aireated and to help stop fungus on them.
She will eat the ones that start to go bad to stop problems spreading. What else do you have in the tank with them ???

There are less eggs now only about 15 there were about 30 so think that they might be infertile but she is still fanning them and he is guarding both eggs and mummy with his life!!!

There like a yellow colour not golden really!!! but if they were infertile wudnt she have just eaten them by now or left them?...so could the eggs remaining be ok?

Thanks again, keep replys coming HNL_FISH

If they where infertile they would probably have got fungus by now so the ones left should be fine. You might not get any fry from this lot though cichlids are great parents but it does sometimes take them a few attempts to get it right. what other fish are in the tank? if theres to many other fish or big fish they might get stressed and eat the eggs.

Guppies and neon tetras so nothin massive or major!!!...oh and platys...so nothin big or nasty!!!
when will they lay again will it be a long time or will they try again soon!!!???!!!

Thanks for all this help guys!!!

It dependce whether any of the fry make it. If theres fry it wont be until the fry are big enough to defend themself but if the fry get eaten it could be within the next few weeks.

So if they are infertile then they will try again in a few weeks???...i have a calm tank which is nice!!! so the fry should be ok with the parents guarding them, the guppy fry have survived so sure they will with help from the mum & dad.

Yeah but aslong as there not pure white they should be fertile. How big is the tank? I would be worried about the krids ripping the guppies to shreds.

The tank is 18 gallon, and loads of hiding places and plants and rocks and wood!!!...the others are staying away!!! there a yellow white iv googled the pics on krib eggs and they all look different!!! the eggs are like ------> O size maybe a bit bigger.

The size sounds a little big but ive never seen krib eggs so cant help. If there off white they will be fertile if there pure white then they will be infertile.

I think there white and my partner thinks there off white, will try takin pic now plz stick around see if i can up load it give me 5 mins cheers :)

wont let me upload a pic sayin its to big and i dont have photo bucket account and cant get on it...any other way guys?
